The former league champions, TUK, are keen to find their way back to the top in the coming season.
Technical University of Kenya (TUK) skipper Brian Werengai scored 13 goals to hand his side a win against Thika-based Spartans as the two sides concluded their Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men's league season.
Coming into the match, Werengai had intimated that the varsity team was looking to end the season on a high against the highly competitive debutants Spartans and his charges lived up to expectations.
The varsity side started off strong but the opponent matched their energy goal-for-goal until the last minutes of the first half where Werengai and his comrades went ahead by two for a 17-15 lead at the break.
The second half was closely fought for the first quarter but TUK pulled away for a 37-30 convincing win.
"It has been a good season albeit the logistical problem we faced that forces us to make do with little training and without some key players due to attachment and injuries
We are happy with the position we have finished and the focus now shifts to the new season where we will strive to have squad depth. We are also hoping to find a permanent coach who will fill in that void," offered Werengai
This season the Nairobi-based varsity team has been under the tutelage of an alumnus Ibsen Nabela who plays for General Service Unit (GSU) in the same league.
In another match Kenyatta University have sealed their Super Cup slot after playing for a 43-37 win over Nairobi County Council (NCC) men in another thriller.
The varsity side under coach Robert Osano needed the win to dislodge Thika Engineers from sixth place and they left nothing to chance as they fought to the last whistle for their victory.
Bethwel Kiprop led the onslaught with eight goals with the trio of Rio Ochieng, Amos Keter and Dickson Wanyama bagging six each.
Jim Korolla emerged the top scorer with nine but it was not enough to hand his side a win that would have seen them finish on 14 points from seven wins.the
